The College

Birpara College is a grant-in-aid, co-educational, undergraduate degree college located in Birpara town in the district of Alipurduar, West Bengal and affiliated to the University of North Bengal (NBU).

About The College

Birpara College was established as a commerce college offering B.Com. (General) with English and Bengali as language subjects in 1986. Following increase in student enrolment and acknowledging their demand, the University of North Bengal (NBU) approved Accountancy (Honours) in 2000. By then, the college was also offering courses in humanities. In 1995, NBU had given the college sanction for starting B.A. (General) courses with the Economics, Sociology and Geography as the elective subjects.

Mission

The professed mission of the college is contained in its motto, “Sa vidya ya vimuktaye” (“education is that which emancipates people”).

Vision

Focused on bringing higher education to those sections of society that have been marginalised because of historical, geographic & social reasons.

Future Plans

The college authorities still feel the need for introducing certain job-oriented courses as well as some other popular subjects for the benefit of the students.

The natural beauty of the place adds to the robust academic atmosphere of the College.

Founded way back in 1986, Birpara College went through many trials and tribulations, and came out with flying colours after having gone through the baptism of fire at the initial stage. Right from its inception, it had a dedicated body of Teachers and Non-Teaching Staff who made every possible effort to bring quality education to the students and in general contribute to the overall improvement of the quality of life of the local inhabitants.

Birpara College focuses on the holistic development of students, especially first-generation learners from socially and economically backward communities.

Staff Ethical Attitude

It has a vibrant faculty whose members are highly qualified and many of them are pursuing research in their respective areas of interest, in addition to regular teaching. In fact, teaching and learning constitutes the core academic activity of the College.

Women Empowerment

The College has a canteen run by a Womens' Self Help Group. It is run by a dedicated group of women volunteers who prepare wholesome and delicious food for the College Staff as well as for the students.

Facilities

Student Diversity

The college has a fairly good student diversity, and is gender sensitive. There are separate facilities for men and women students. Student intake is predominantly from tea garden workers and other under privileged groups.

Canteen

Birpara College offers courses in B.A., B.Com, and B.Sc. streams under the University of North Bengal (NBU). Honours courses are available in Accountancy, Bengali, English, Nepali, Geography, History, Political Science and Sociology.

E-Governance

Birpara College has a website with up-to-date information on administrative and academic matters, including important notices pertaining to college and university examinations and holidays. It also boasts of a dedicated college app to enable students to be abreast of the same through their smart phones.

ICT Classroom

Notwithstanding being situated in a remote location, Birpara College has made efforts in trying to learn and implement the usage of Information and Computer Technology to bring digital learning to the students in order to make the teaching and learning process more interesting and student friendly.

Remedial Coaching

Birpara College offers courses in B.A., B.Com, and B.Sc. streams under the University of North Bengal (NBU). Honours courses are available in Accountancy, Bengali, English, Nepali, Geography, History, Political Science and Sociology.

Library

The College has constructed a brand-new library with a capacity for books and journals. The library has a reading corner for the faculty in addition to providing adequate reading space to the students. Besides academic books and journals, the library also has provisions for newspapers and periodicals in order to prepare students for various competitive exams.

Community Service

The college has two National Service Scheme (NSS) units, which are open to students of all streams.

The institution remains committed to promoting holistic development through cultural and sports events, encouraging students to showcase their talents and participate in competitions, fostering growth, recognition, and personal development.
