A memorable programme commemorating the recognition and incorporation of the Nepali Language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution on 20th August 1992, was held in Birpara College premises under the auspices of the Department of Nepali, and was attended by faculty members and students of the concerned department. The Faculty members apprised the students regarding the importance of the commemorative event, and the Principal, Dr. Kaustav Chakrabarti, gave a short speech in Hindi highlighting the importance of the event. As Nepali bears resemblance to Hindi in terms of phonetics and the Devnagari Script, it belongs to the family of the Indo Aryan group of languages. The programme ended with the recitation of poetry by a student and the vote of thanks.
