International Conference on Cultural Challenges and Mental Health

A one day International Conference on Cultural Challenges and Mental Health was conducted under the auspices of the Department of Sociology, Birpara College, dated 03.08.2024. The programme started on a good note with the active participation of the faculty members, including the IQAC and NAAC Convener, in addition to a substantial number of students, in the seminar hall. The major speakers were Mr. Rezaul Karim, Research Scholar, West Illinois State University, USA, and Teaching Assistant at the said University, Prof ( Dr) Saurav Madhur Dey, Associate Professor, Dept of Sociology, Burdwan University, and Mr. Mahadeb Das, School Teacher, G. S. High School, Narahatta. All of them have made very meaningful and interactive power point presentations before the audience, that were well received. There was a technical session for research scholars for presentation of papers. All the participants were presented with certificates of attendance as well as paper presenters. Mr. Karim spoke on Cultural Challenges faced by the international students in the United States, Dr. Dey spoke on the nuances of culture, stress related issues and coping strategies while Mr. Das highlighted the issue of mental health across India through various parameters. The topics were extremely relevant in today’s parlance and were meant to guide the student community in particular to address mental health problems and their probable remedies.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks.
