Welcome To Department of History
The Department of History was established in Birpara College in 2003 as a general subject. The Honours course in History was introduced in 2009. Ever since its inception, the department has performed consistently well in academics as well as in individual student appraisal. The department has a dedicated faculty who are well-versed in their respective areas of study. All students have to go on field trips and study tours in order to gain a first -hand experience of their subject which enables them to have a thorough knowledge of the discipline. Field trips have been conducted both within the state of West Bengal and outside in order to gain a Pan Indian view of Indian Culture and Heritage. Beyond academics, students of the department have pursued Masters in home as well as other universities, and have secured placement through competitive exams. Students who are interested in a career in teaching and research have qualified NET (with JRF) and SET and are pursuing PhD in different universities.
